Move Out of Your Comfort Zone

Your comfort zone is a behavior model in which you have become familiar and know from experience that if you adhere to this set guideline, that you will be taking few, if any, risks. It is only natural to want to continue in a way that does not pose risks, but this way may inhibit learning and opportunity.

Though you may feel safe in your comfort zone, that comfort zone is encircled with a wall of fear. It is this fear that keeps you trapped within the confines of the comfort zone and can keep you from reaching out for what you have always dreamed of.

Leaving your comfort zone can be scary, but often necessary in order to achieve greater success. The survival instinct encourages us to stay where we are, where we know we will be safe, even if just beyond that veil of safety lies the very thing we want most of all.

If you fear reaching out for success, chances are you will not achieve success. It’s easy to see how the comfort zone can limit your potential. You may be in a dead end job, or you are unhappy with your current relationship, or else simply need more money than what you make now. You know that you must take risks in order to change your situation, but there is this troublesome thought in the back of your mind telling you that if you leave your current “safe zone” you may fail and cause yourself further hardship.

Suppose you change jobs or careers and fail in the new direction you’ve chosen, or what if you leave your current relationship and find that you really were happy with that person or even worse, what if you find yourself alone?

Before you can successfully leave that comfort zone behind, you must begin looking at these situations not as risks, but as opportunities. Cast these actions in a more positive light and you will see that leaving the comfort zone provides opportunity for good change and learning.

If you leave your current job, you may find one that is more suited to you. You could be happier at work and make a great deal more money. If you are in an unhappy relationship, by leaving this relationship you could not only be doing something good for yourself, but your partner as well. In reality, most people are happier alone than embroiled in an unhappy relationship. Fearing loneliness should be the least of your concerns. Chances are very high that you will not end up alone in the long run anyway.

All your opportunities for success and happiness reside outside the comfort zone. Once you fully understand this, you will see the necessity for leaving that comfort zone behind. Nearly anyone who has achieved massive amounts of success has had to take risks to get here. You will be no different. Leave that comfort zone behind, take risks and reach for the stars.
