Personal Counseling and Behavioral Health

Dear HCCUA Members:

I sincerely hope that all of you had a healthy, relaxing, and enjoyable summer. As we begin the fall, many Members and families will be starting school, going off to college, or starting a new working schedule. Along with all new beginnings, you may be experiencing the normal feelings of anticipation, fear, and anxiety. The very act of change may be somewhat intimidating and daunting, even to the most grounded individuals, as humans are constantly attempting to maintain balance in their lives, or as the biologists call this process, maintaining homeostasis.

If you do find yourself having more than a normal emotional or physical reaction to change, or if you are experiencing a high level of stress, as a HCCUA member you have free access to behavioral health experts on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year! Licensed, clinical mental health staff is always available to help you on a variety of life issues such as marriage and relationship problems, childcare and children issues, eldercare help, alcohol and drug abuse resources, health issues, personal challenges and stress, and financial difficulties, to name just a few. You certainly would not be able to have this easy access to traditional mental health counseling services where in many cases people are put on waiting lists for weeks until a counselor is available, and the cost for services can be quite expensive.

How can you get started on the road to mental health? You can use this highly desirable benefit by calling the toll-free access number at 1 (888) 866- 7938, and your telephone call will be directly answered by a licensed, clinical counselor. In addition, this service is available with online translation services in over 140 languages, so do not hesitate to ask for your preferred language. All of your calls will be handled with complete confidentiality and professionalism.

What will happen once you make the call? The counselor will work with you from the beginning to explain the behavioral services available, the type of assessments used, the counseling process, and to answer any of your questions. Your individual needs will be determined and you will discuss the next steps and any related resources that may be of help to you immediately. You will be asked to schedule a future appointment, and if needed, you may be referred to an ancillary source of information and help such as a financial counselor, dependent care coordinator, local support groups, treatment facilities, etc., which can get you started in immediately reducing your stress.

Please remember that you are never alone in your anxiety, frustration, or problems when you are a HCCUA Member. You will save money, time, energy, and maybe even embarrassment, by accessing your free counseling and behavioral services benefit. Let the counselor coordinate your services and make recommendations to help you get back to a place of stability and balance. Remember that everyone can benefit at sometime in their life from the help of a professional counselor as none of us get through life completely unscathed!

I hope you all have a mentally healthy, happy, balanced, and stress free month,

Dr. Lynn S. Morgan, HCCUA, President
