HCCUA PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Dear HCCUA Members:
I hope all of you HCCUA Members have made progress on your New Year’s resolutions for 2012 whether it be to have a healthier lifestyle, go green with cleaning supplies, schedule daily fitness activities, eat more nutritious meals, reduce your personal debt, cut down on medical expenses, or whatever else you promised to yourself on the first of the year. With shorter days and less sunlight during the winter months, it is even more important to take good care of your physical and mental health by exercising regularly and eating fresh, healthy food, by exercising good personal hygiene for disease prevention, and by assuring you get 7- 8 hours of restful nightly sleep.
If you are like many people, your best intended New Year’s resolutions may have been abandoned by now for lack of time, money, interest, or other reasons. Recent medical research showed that people who had an exercise “buddy” are 75% more apt to stay on their exercise routine, while another reported that a majority of people in a large study would go to the gym more frequently, lose more weight, and keep unwanted weight off longer when they had the support of a personal trainer.
If you don’t have close and immediate access to friends, family or colleagues who can support your financial and healthy living New Year’s resolutions, please know that you have many available online services, educational materials, and helpful experts you can easily access through your HCCUA Membership. Whether you have financial questions, legal issues, medical billing concerns, or you want to know about heart disease, you have all the information and desired resources as close as your computer through accessing your HCCUA Membership benefits.
You may be one of the many millions who would like to spend less money on their healthcare expenses this year, especially the unforeseen expenses that come along with standard medical screenings and procedures, such as a colonoscopy. If you have ever been hospitalized, even for a short stay, the medical bills can be numerous and overwhelming to understand and decipher! However when you schedule your routine health screenings, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures through the HCCUA Health Advocacy Department, you are assured to receive the lowest cost procedure closest to your home. Indeed, we at HCCUA are extremely proud to say that over the past 12 months of 2011, the HCCUA Health Advocacy Department saved HCCUA Members approximately $3.4 million in healthcare costs!
I want all HCCUA Members to know and use this fantastic Health Advocacy benefit if their need arises. You will work with thoughtful, astute professionals who know their field of Health Advocacy and they will help you through the morass of medical procedures and issues regarding scheduling, billing, and expediently getting quality medical services near your location.
While you are enjoying financial and healthcare benefits from your HCCUA membership and resources, please take time to look through your HCCUA e-Newsletter for February. The two featured articles will give you more ideas on saving money and self-advocating for a healthier lifestyle, plus there is a delicious recipe for a soothing and nourishing winter soup.
